Ice forecasts for the Great Lakes issued by Environment Canada at
12:00 P.M. EST Wednesday 21 January 2026 for today tonight and
Thursday.
The next scheduled forecasts will be issued at 12:00 P.M. Thursday.

Western Lake Superior.
Open water except 9 tenths new lake ice including 2 tenths medium
lake ice along parts of the shores. Consolidated medium lake ice
including 2 tenths thick lake ice in Thunder Bay. Consolidated thick
lake ice in Black Bay, Chequamegon Bay, and Nipigon Bay. 

Eastern Lake Superior.
Open water except 9 tenths new lake ice along parts of the southern
shore. Consolidated thin lake ice along parts of the southern shore.

Whitefish Bay.
5 tenths new lake ice including 2 tenths thin lake ice. Consolidated
medium lake ice along parts of the shore. 

North Channel.
9 plus tenths thin lake ice including 3 tenths medium lake ice.
Consolidated medium lake ice in the eastern and western section.
Consolidated medium lake ice including 2 tenths thick lake ice in
St. Marys River. 

Northern Lake Huron.
Open water except 9 tenths new lake ice including 2 tenths thin lake
ice along parts of the shore. 9 tenths medium lake ice in the
Straits of Mackinac. Consolidated medium lake ice along parts of the
shore. 

Southern Lake Huron.
Open water except 9 tenths thin lake ice including 2 tenths medium
lake ice along parts of the shore. 9 plus tenths medium lake ice in
Saginaw Bay. Consolidated medium lake ice along parts of the shore. 

Northern Georgian Bay.
1 tenth new lake ice except 9 tenths thin lake ice including 2
tenths medium lake ice near and along the northern shore.
Consolidated medium lake ice along parts of the shore. 

Southern Georgian Bay.
Open water except 9 tenths new lake ice including 1 tenth medium
lake ice along the eastern shore. Consolidated medium lake ice along
parts of the northeastern shore and in Severn Sound. 

Lake St. Clair.
9 plus tenths thin lake ice including 1 tenth medium lake ice.
Consolidated thin lake ice including 2 tenths medium lake ice in the
eastern section. 

Western Lake Erie.
9 tenths thin lake ice including 1 tenth medium lake ice.
Consolidated medium lake ice west of Point Pelee. 

Eastern Lake Erie.
5 tenths new lake ice including 1 tenth thin lake ice except 9
tenths new lake ice including 2 tenths thin lake ice in the western
section. 

Western Lake Ontario.
Open water except 5 tenths new lake ice along parts of the southern
shore. 

Eastern Lake Ontario.
Open water except 7 tenths new lake ice including 3 tenths thin lake
ice in the extreme northeastern section. Consolidated medium lake
ice in sheltered bays and in the Bay of Quinte. 

Northern Lake Michigan.
Open water except 9 tenths medium lake ice north of and east of
Beaver Island. Consolidated medium lake ice in the Straits of
Mackinac. 3 tenths medium lake ice near Green Bay. 

Southern Lake Michigan.
Open water except 9 tenths new lake ice along the shore. 

Green Bay.
9 tenths thin lake ice including 4 tenths medium lake ice.
Consolidated medium lake ice in Bays de Noc and southern Green Bay.
